The 18th production for Huggable Riot, Wake Up Call marked the theatre company’s first collaboratively written one-act play. Wake Up Call showed how six friends grapple with running from their circumstances versus being trapped by them, and how grief varies from person-to-person yet unites everyone. In a comedic one-act that utilized a farcical concierge played by every actor to a disappearance suspected by the hands of Bigfoot, this hour-long play was as dynamic as its millennial cast of characters - which ranged from an incessantly broadcasting YouTube star lacking awareness of his friends to a sister chasing fun to mute her grief. At its heart, Wake Up Call asks what provides individual happiness and how to overcome its obstacles, especially when it’s ourselves.
Wake Up Call continued Huggable Riot’s fourth annual Summer of Sketch and was directed by Huggable co-founder Hunter Larrison and head written by Nick McDowell, who lead a team of returning writer/performers including Kevin Black, Elisabeth Del Toro, Joe Hirte, Kelsey Myers, Evan Starkweather, and Brittani Yawn.
