Huggable Riot's 11th original sketch revue, Science Fiction Trouble Feature, opened Wednesday, June 14 at The Annoyance Theatre and Bar. Science Fiction Trouble Feature took a look at modern social and political issues through the lens of 20th century pop culture media including sci-fi, fairytale, and horror tropes. Whether escaping the ever-looming brainless hordes, creating the most unlikely superhero, or a Soviet robot discovering love, this revue suggested that maybe we are all just living in a bad movie.
“You can learn so much about a culture and how they feel by looking at their stories,” says Mark Fleming, director of Science Fiction Trouble Feature. “Whether it is a fear of nuclear war, becoming critical of capitalism, or just a need for escapism and heroes above the law. And in today’s world, where truth is stranger than fiction, is life reflecting art? And what stories will we tell? This show imagines three generations of stories compelled to exist in a modern world.”
